Ideas For Eloping In Georgia

When To Elope In Georgia

Although there can be good weather throughout the year, Fall is generally the best time of year to get married in Georgia. This is because it can be very hot and humid in the summer, whereas fall offers a good balance between temperature and comfort. Fall also brings stunning scenery, with vibrant colors, that give amazing backdrops for your wedding photographs. That said, if you’re set on a different time of the year, then here’s what you need to know.   Winter (December – February): Mild temperatures and fewer tourists make winter an excellent time for an elopement. Savannah’s historic streets are quieter, providing a romantic and peaceful backdrop for your ceremony. Spring (March – May): Spring in Georgia is delightful, with blooming flowers and pleasant temperatures. Be aware, however, that March can be busy due to spring break, which may increase costs and crowd sizes. April and May offer a great balance of warm weather and fewer crowds, ideal for outdoor ceremonies. Summer (June – August): Coastal Georgia experiences hot, humid weather with occasional thunderstorms. If you plan a summer elopement, having a backup indoor or covered location is wise. Summer also sees a surge in tourism, which can affect venue availability and intimacy. Fall (September – November): Fall is one of the best times to elope in Georgia. The weather is typically mild and pleasant, though keep an eye on hurricane season (June to November) and monitor forecasts. September and October are particularly appealing, offering beautiful weather and fewer tourists.

What To Wear

Given Georgia’s warm and sometimes humid climate, you’ll want to dress appropriately for comfort, enjoyment and of course amazing photographs! For the Bride: Opt for light, breathable fabrics like chiffon, lace, or silk to stay cool. Flowing, relaxed styles are perfect for a coastal or historic setting, allowing for easy movement and a laid-back vibe. For the Groom: Choose breathable fabrics and lighter colors to keep cool and complement the relaxed atmosphere of a coastal or historic elopement. Footwear: Comfort is crucial. For beach ceremonies, consider sandals or even going barefoot for a natural feel. For historic Savannah, elegant flats or low heels may work better on cobblestone streets. If you choose heels, go for wedges to enhance stability. If your ceremony will involve a significant amount of activity, such as a hike in the mountains or woods, or a stroll along the beach, then you may want to bring a change of clothing for the ceremony and photos.

Location Ideas:

First things first, Georgia is gorgeous. We’re talking about a place where nature really shows off. Here are some top elopement destination ideas for the state of Georgia.

Blue Ridge Mountains

Imagine saying your vows surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains. The air is crisp, the views are endless, and it feels like you’re the only two people in the world. Maybe you’ve heard of a little town called Dahlonega? It’s tucked right into the mountains and feels like a secret hideaway. The best part? You can find charming spots like Preacher’s Rock, where the trail isn’t too tough, but the view is worth every step. Just picture standing on a rock, the wind in your hair, the mountains all around, and saying “I do” with nothing but nature (plus your officiant) as your witness.

Amicalola Falls State Park

If you’re more into the idea of a quiet, dreamy forest, Georgia has that covered too. One place that comes to mind is Amicalola Falls State Park. It’s home to one of the tallest waterfalls in the Southeast. Can you imagine the sound of the water as you exchange your vows? There’s something so magical about being in the woods, surrounded by trees that have stood for hundreds of years, with just a hint of the waterfall in the background. You could even have a picnic afterwards, just the two of you, right there by the water.

Jekyll Island – Driftwood Beach

Maybe you’re a beach person at heart? Georgia’s coast is stunning and not as crowded as some other beachy places, which is perfect for an elopement. Have you ever heard of Driftwood Beach on Jekyll Island? It’s exactly as cool as it sounds. The beach is dotted with old, weathered trees that have washed up on the shore, creating this almost otherworldly vibe with hauntingly beautiful driftwood formations. It’s peaceful, and when the sun sets, the whole place glows. Walking hand in hand along the sand, with the ocean at your feet and the sky painted in soft oranges and pinks, sounds like a perfect end to a perfect day.

Jekyll Island Club Resort

For a blend of historic elegance and coastal charm, the Jekyll Island Club Resort offers beautiful gardens and a grand historic ambiance, perfect for a more traditional yet intimate elopement.

Cumberland Island

Cumberland Island is a pretty amazing spot. It’s famous for its wild horses, old ruins, and long trails lined with giant live oaks. To get there, you’ll need to take a ferry from St. Mary’s to Sea Camp. The island gets busier when the weather is just right, especially in late September, October, March, and April. If you want the place mostly to yourselves, it’s better to avoid those months. For a more private elopement, you can hike out to the more remote campsites and beaches, where you’ll find a bit more peace and quiet.

Savannah’s Historic District – Forsyth Park

Known for its iconic fountain and beautiful gardens, Forsyth Park offers a picturesque setting in the heart of Savannah’s historic district. The lush greenery and historic architecture provide a romantic backdrop for your ceremony.

The Davenport House Museum

For a touch of historical elegance, consider this beautiful museum with its charming garden. It’s an intimate venue that captures the essence of Savannah’s rich history.

Tybee Island Beach

With its expansive sandy shores and stunning ocean views, Tybee Island Beach is a fantastic choice for a coastal elopement. The relaxed, beachy atmosphere makes it perfect for a casual and intimate ceremony. For a unique and scenic spot, the Tybee Island Lighthouse offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic. It’s an iconic choice that adds a touch of historic charm to your special day.
