The day started out ominously, threatening rain. But it turned out gloriously sunny and magical, which is sure to be a sign from above. Speaking of above, they even included some amazing aerial photography in their big day! Every single detail on this intimate wedding in Wisconsin was perfect, and gave Allie and Shelby a day that they’re going to treasure forever.

The Perfume Exchange

Intimate weddings give freedom to the couple, while keeping some features of a traditional wedding. As you can see from the gorgeous dresses, Allie and Shelby were keen to have some traditions while doing other things their way.

They started their day out getting ready inside the cabin, and we arranged for a “first look” where they did a perfume exchange. If you haven’t experienced a perfume/cologne exchange, it is an amazing way to incorporate your sense of smell into the day.

Many couples will choose the scent for their partner and present it on their wedding day. This perfume/cologne is to only be used afterwards on intimate occasions, like anniversaries, to bring back the memories of the day. What a great memento of a special day!

Intimate Wedding Ceremony

Allie and Shelby’s ceremony was breathtaking, with the prairies of wildflowers creating a beautiful backdrop.

In keeping with some traditional wedding features, the couple were walked down the isle by their fathers. They shared their vows with each other, and then did the all important ring exchange; symbolizing eternity together.

After the Ceremony

Rather than the typical reception with music and dancing, they opted for yard games and a campfire with smores. Many couples who elope choose not to have a party afterwards, due to the small number of guests. At this intimate wedding, there were enough people to celebrate with the couple but not too many to make the reception stressful to organize.

Allie and Shelby had the great idea of bringing in a mini-golf course to keep everyone entertained and having fun. The kids loved it, and the grown ups probably even more!

We ended their day by hiking the trails of wildflowers and capturing some fun photographs with their two dogs who were dressed in the cutest tuxedos. I do love it when family pets can be involved in the special day, and dogs are man’s (and woman’s!) best friend after all.
